Delete your account

Effective: 2026-09-06

This page explains how to delete your account, and what happens to your data when you do. It covers the distress.ae website and the distress.ae mobile app for Android and iOS, both operated by Distress PORTAL, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Two ways to delete your account

If you have the app

Open the app and go to Account → Account & privacy → Delete account → Delete my account. It happens straight away.

If you do not

Email us and we will do it for you. You do not need to reinstall the app or have it at all.

Email support@distress.ae

1. Deleting it yourself, in the app

  1. Open the distress.ae app and sign in.
  2. Tap Account at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Under “Your account”, tap Account & privacy.
  4. Tap Delete my account.
  5. A panel lists exactly what will be removed, counted for your account. Read it, then confirm.

You will be asked for your password. This is deliberate: your phone is already signed in, so the password is the one thing a stranger holding it does not have. If you signed in with Google and never set a password, you are not asked for one.

The deletion happens immediately and cannot be undone. We send a confirmation email to the address on the account listing what was removed.

2. Asking us to delete it, without the app

If you have uninstalled the app, cannot sign in, or never used the app at all, email support@distress.ae with the subject “Delete my account” and tell us:

  • the email address on the account, and
  • the phone number you used, if you have it.

Send it from the email address on the account where you can. We may ask you to confirm before we act — not to slow you down, but because a deletion request is the easiest way for somebody else to destroy your listings, and we would rather ask twice than get that wrong.

We act on erasure requests within 30 days of receiving them, as set out in our Privacy Policy (UAE PDPL, Federal Decree-Law 45/2021, Article 15). In practice it is usually the same or the next working day.

3. What is deleted

Your sign-in account is genuinely removed, not switched off or hidden. Everything below goes with it:

  • Your account and profile — email address, name, phone number and sign-in details.
  • Every listing you posted, live or not, and everything attached to it: photos, the enquiry history, and the report of who asked to see your number.
  • Documents you uploaded — title deeds and broker cards. The files themselves are removed from storage, not only the records pointing at them.
  • Your public agent page, if you had one. The whole record goes — name, brokerage, licence number, photo and the phone number held against it — and the page stops existing.
  • Saved listings and saved searches, including every price alert built on them.
  • Your devices — push notifications stop, and the record of which phones were signed in is removed.

4. What is not deleted, and why

We would rather tell you this plainly than let you find out later.

  • A listing somebody else posted with you named as the seller. If an agent or our team posted a property on your behalf, that listing belongs to the account that posted it, and it is not ours to delete for you. Your link to it is removed, so it no longer points at you, and the listing stays. The confirmation email names any such listing. If you want it taken down as well, reply to that email or write to support@distress.ae.
  • An enquiry record, if you ever asked to see a seller’s phone number. The name and phone number you typed in before the number was shown are kept as a separate record of that enquiry, together with the safety notice you accepted. It is stored against your phone number rather than your account, so deleting your account does not reach it. To have it removed, email support@distress.ae from any address and give us that phone number.
  • Backups, for up to 90 days. Our database is backed up daily and each backup is kept for 90 days. Your data disappears from those copies as they age out. Backups are not used to serve the site or restore individual accounts.
  • Anonymous statistics. Counts such as how many listings were viewed in a month remain, with nothing in them that identifies you.
  • Anything the law requires us to keep — records we are obliged to retain for security, fraud prevention or regulatory reasons, for as long as that obligation lasts and no longer.

5. Before you delete

  • It cannot be reversed. There is no grace period and no restore. If you sign up again later you start from nothing.
  • If you are an agent, your live listings, your public page and the enquiries sitting in your dashboard all go at the same moment.
  • If your account has been suspended, the app will not delete it — the suspension is the record that keeps a banned account from simply coming back. Email support@distress.ae and we will handle the erasure properly.

6. Other ways to reach us

Deleting your account is one of several rights you have over your data. Access, correction, restriction and portability are set out in section 8 of our Privacy Policy, and how long we keep each kind of data is in section 7.

For anything on this page, write to support@distress.ae.
